Natterjack toad
Biology
The main distinctive feature of the natterjack is the yellow stripe down its back. This toad, with tubercular skin and green iris has a tendency to run instead of hopping or walking, which is why it is sometimes called the running toad.
Conservation
Habitat destruction due to urban pressure and pollution, disappearance of temporary ponds and mortality on roads.
Curiosities
As a defence mechanism it swells its body and stands on its feet.
