Atlantic spadefish
Biology
This fish is named after the characteristic shape of its body: flattened and with the dorsal and anal fins forming a spade. It is abundant in shallow coastal waters, from mangrove swamps and sandy beaches to harbours. Adults often form schools of up to 500 individuals.
Conservation
This fish is a target of sport fishing.
Curiosities
In an attempt to camouflage themselves, juveniles are darker in colour and will drift, leaf-like.
