Voltar

Pennant coralfish

Biology

This species inhabits lagoons, channels, and the deeper parts of reefs. The body is white with black bands contrasted with bright yellow fins and it has a wonderful long extension to its dorsal fin. It feeds on plankton and juveniles can even pick parasites from other fish.

Conservation

The ecosystems surrounding the islands that comprise Polynesia have been devastated due to fishing. The use of fishing nets and toxic substances has led to the physical destruction of these reefs, threatening all the species that live there. As an attempt to fight those activities and protect those habitats, protected marine areas have been created.

Curiosities

While juveniles are often solitary, adults are found in pairs.
