Voltar

Pink anemonefish

Biology

This species has a orangish pink colouration with a single thin, vertical white line, and it is one of the smaller clownfish, reaching only about 10 centimetres in length. It forms a symbiotic relationship with a small number of anemones, being immune to the poison of its tentacles due to the mucus that covers its skin.

Conservation

This species might be at risk, due to loss of its habitat - the coral reefs.

Curiosities

Like all clownfishes, this species can experience a change in sex. They are protandric hermaphrodites; that is, they start life as males and if the dominant female dies, one of the male changes sex and takes her place. The males care for and guard the eggs.
