Biology
The redtail butterflyfish lives in shallow waters, up to 15 metres in depth, near rocky and coral reefs. During the breeding season, male and female pair up and maintain the relationship for several years and sometimes even for life. However, they can also be seen in large groups.
Curiosities
These fishes feed on coral polyps. However, if facing a shortage in this resource, they become carnivores and eat shrimp and small fish.
