Soldierfish

Biology

The soldierfish is the common name for the subfamily Myripristinae, where all fish have a red body. It inhabits shallow waters up to 100 metres in depth, where it spends the day hidden and resting in crevices and holes. It is most active at night and that is why it has big eyes, allowing it so see clearly in the dark.

Conservation

This subfamily includes about 28 species, of which at least two are listed as Vulnerable: M. clarionensis and M. gildi. This classification is due to the fact that both species are restricted to a unique habitat and have a small home range.
