Starry moray

Biology

The starry moray can reach up to one metre in length, and shelters in cracks and holes of coral reefs. It lives in shallow water, up to 10 metres deep, and is commonly found in pools during low tide. Here, it feeds on urchins and crabs, which it crushes with its sharp teeth that are especially adapted for this job. It is considered the most harmless of all morays, although it can attack when provoked.

Curiosities

This moray is easily recognised by the beautiful pattern that covers its body, similar to flakes of snow, hence its name, starry moray or snowflake moray.
