Thornback ray

Biology

This nocturnal ray has a pattern of spots and thorns on its back that allows it to live perfectly disguised on the rocky and sandy bottoms that it inhabits. The thornback ray has the ability to detect weak electric fields that are emitted by other animals, which helps to avoid predators and catch food.

Curiosities

Every year, between winter and spring, each female lays about 150 eggs.
