Tiger rockfish

Biology

The tiger rockfish owes its name to the five dark vertical stripes on its reddish body. It inhabits rocky reefs always below 10 metres in depth. Juveniles form schools in the water column but as adults they become solitary and territorial and live in crevices at up to 270 metres in depth. Curiously, they can share their shelter with other species of rockfish.

Curiosities

The tiger rockfish can quickly change its colours, when disturbed by intruders or when there is a change in lighting.
