Undulate ray

Biology

This ray can be found on the shore, in sandy bottoms. With a unique dorsal pattern that allows it to blend into the environment, this ray feeds on fish, worms and molluscs.

Conservation

This species has a patchy distribution along the coast, so it is possible that the communication between populations is difficult. In areas where the undulate ray occurs the most, a decline in its abundance has been recorded, and this is why it is classified as "Endangered".

Curiosities

At the breeding season, between March and September, females lay eggs. The eggs are protected with a strong capsule and, by the end of five months, new rays are born, fully formed.
