Groovel brain coral

Biology

Just like the name says, this coral looks like a brain. A very distinctive ridge divides the ‘brain' in two hemispheres, although the crests in this species are not as profound nor deep as in other brain-coral species. It is not a particularly common coral and is found sporadically in reef lagoons.

Conservation

Coral reefs around the world are in danger. The major threat to corals is global climate change, high temperatures and ocean acidification. Localized threats to corals include fisheries, invasive species, dynamite fishing, chemical fishing, pollution, sedimentation, and human recreation and tourism activities.
