Biology
This is one of the most commonly grown palms throughout the tropics. The table palm is a solitary plant which can grow up to 24 metres in height. The leaves are glossy green, pendent and with spiny petioles. Its fruit is a small sphere whose colour varies from red to black.
Conservation
Nowadays it is highly cultivated in tropical and subtropical countries as an ornamental plant. However, its leaves are mostly harvested and used for thatching and food-wrapping.
Curiosities
It is also known as “Anahaw”, the national leaf of the Philipines.
