Submerged Universe

“SUBMERGED UNIVERSE” IT’S THE OCEANÁRIO DE LISBOA NEW EXHIBITION!

An immersive experience, a different way of looking at the ocean.

There is an underwater world waiting to be discovered, where the largest and smallest creatures live in harmony. Where the ocean and the sky mirror each other, creating an illusion that is both fascinating and hypnotic. There is an underwater world that makes you feel in tune with nature. Welcome. The immersive journey into the infinite ocean begins here.

It’s now possible to embark on the new immersive experience at the Oceanário de Lisboa. The “Submerged Universe” exhibition is now part of the aquarium’s visit route and involves the public in a poetic environment between the celestial and the deep sea. This journey reveals how all the elements, from tiny plankton to majestic whales, are connected and balanced.

The project was developed in close collaboration between the Oceanário de Lisboa team and the international studio LesAteliers BK, specialises in combining art and technology to produce visual installations with captivating narratives. The partnership with the French studio, responsible, among other things, for the video mapping of the Arc de Triomphe during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, is committed to a magical experience that combines the scientific rigour of marine life representation and the artistic abstraction of the imagination. Immersed in a universe of currents, lights, movements, and sounds, the public is invited to reflect on the role of each component in the balance of the marine ecosystem.

The experience can be visited on the upper floor of the Oceanário de Lisboa’s permanent exhibition and begins where the Antarctic habitat used to be, which is currently closed for renovation. During the works, the iconic penguin colony will be sheltered in a facility adapted to their needs, maintaining all the routines and care provided by the Oceanário team, but temporarily away from visitors. Until their return, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in this new ‘Submerged Universe’.

| The exhibition has bright and flashing lights that may cause discomfort to people with photosensitive epilepsy.

| Oceanário de Lisboa is open every day from 10 AM to 8 PM, with the last entrance at 7 PM.
